Why Hardwood Flooring Is the Sensible Choice

Choosing the flooring for your house can be a tough task. There are plenty of options available on the market and each has its advantages and disadvantages. However, there are some materials that have a few tricks up their sleeve when compared with others. Today, the focus will be on hardwood floors and go over a few reasons why this type of flooring sits at the top of the pack.
What is hardwood flooring?
Let's start by addressing this question. This flooring lives up to its name, quite literally. It is a type of flooring made from hard and durable woods. Some examples include Oak, Walnut, and Pine. However, there are many woods that can be used for hardwood flooring, each having the property of being solid and robust.
Why is it the sensible choice?
Well, the first thing that you'll notice with a hardwood floor is that it's... erm... hard. Durable materials can be great for adding extra protection to a surface. However, there are many other great features of these floors. They are extremely easy to maintain and can be cleaned and polished effortlessly. They don't gather loads of dust and other nasty particles like traditional carpet floors, making them the only suitable choice for allergy sufferers or people with breathing problems. They never stain as they are laminated, ensuring that they keep their sleek look for a very long time. In fact, if you look after a hardwood floor then there is no reason why it won't last a lifetime.
Any other advantages?
Thought you'd never ask. Yes, there are. Wood is always fashionable and as hardwoods are plentiful, you are guaranteed to find a lovely finish for your home from the numerous wood types available. They also give a wonderful, natural look to your living space and add a touch of elegance to your humble abode. In fact, a good hardwood floor can actually increase the value of your property by a considerable amount. As wood is natural, it also reacts to the temperature and conditions of the environment, giving it a versatile look throughout the year whilst still maintaining all of its great features.
Any disadvantages?
No flooring option is perfect and there are a few things to consider with hardwood floors. Wood varies in its texture and grain so don't expect a completely flat, perfected finish. The same goes for monotone colour, as each piece of wood brings its own character and personality to the table. The only other disadvantage is that over-exposure to sunlight can sometimes cause the laminate to fade, but this isn't usually that noticeable and doesn't hinder the finish.

How to Minimize Scratches on Wood Flooring

Hardwood flooring is a big attraction to many home owners and buyers. You will find if you watch a lot of the home TV shows, many home buyers will require hardwood flooring for their purchase. This is because hardwood flooring is not only timeless, but also sleek and easy to keep clean. A key to keeping those hardwoods looking great, is to make sure to keep them free of scratches and shiny and new.

One way to help keep the hardwood flooring looking great is to take steps to prevent scratches in the first place. This is done by making sure to not move furniture along the flooring, do not walk on the floors in high-heeled shoes, and to make sure to keep dogs and other pets claws clipped and short as to not scratch the wood. If moving furniture, make sure to pick the pieces up from the floor. If you wear high-heeled shoes, make sure to take them off at the door. Finally, if you have indoor pets, make sure to keep their claws clipped and smooth at all times.

If you happen to find a scratch the first step would be to minimize it as best as possible. You can do by this lightly rubbing the scratch with fine steel wool. Make sure to rub with the grain of wood, and not against it. If it is a deeper scratch you may want to try lightweight sandpaper on the scratch. Again, make sure to rub with the grain of wood as to not cause further damage.

After you have buffed out the scratches, you want to rub some mineral spirits over the area. This will smooth out the scratch and you pick up any of the fine dust from using the fine steel wool or lightweight sandpaper.

Next you simply want to fill the scratch with a premixed wood filler. While using a putty knife, you want to fill the scratch with the filler. Try to find a filler that is the same shade as your flooring. Once the filler has tried you simply want to go over the scratch with a lightweight sandpaper. This is for getting rid of any excess sand filler. That is all you want to remove in this step.

The last step to fixing any minor scratches is to refinish the sanded area with a varnish, polyurethane or other sealant product. In this step you want to use a lambswool applicator as to not create any air bubbles in the finish.

Is Bamboo Flooring A Good Fit For Your Family?

When choosing new flooring for you home, you have to take a lot of things into consideration. For one you have to think about your family and what type of flooring best suits your needs. Do you need some that is durable and strong? Some type of foundation that has allergen control? Or perhaps you are simply looking for the most cost-effective flooring? Whatever your needs may be you may want to think about giving bamboo a try!

Bamboo is a type of flooring that is manufactured from, you guessed it, the bamboo plant! Most of the world's bamboo is found in China, so most of the bamboo flooring on the market today will come from Asia. This is an attractive flooring for me people because it has a lot of benefits to it, and I will mention some of them here today.

The first benefit of bamboo flooring is the sheer durability of it. Bamboo floor manufacturers and sellers will often times promote this product to customers who are looking for a flooring option with a lot of strength and durability. This is also a great flooring that is resistant to insects and most importantly, moisture! Moisture is a huge concern when owning hardwood flooring, so to have the concern removed is priceless.

This is also a flooring that is very eco-friendly so that is a big plus for people looking to "go green" or have a flooring that does not take away from or harm the environment. The hardness of flooring ranges from 1180 to around 1380 and different forms of this flooring exist. The manufacturing process of the flooring differs based on the economy in the region it is being produced and preferences of the buyer.

The most common form of bamboo flooring is the use of thin bamboo stems. These thin stems are cut as flat as possible and this is the most popular choice of flooring in southeast Asia. Once the thin stems are cut as flat as possible, they are cut to similar lengths and typically stained and varnished. They can also be used as is without any staining or varnishing.

When thinking about bamboo flooring you have a lot of different choices between the way the flooring is cut, the color of the flooring and the durability level. Another great feature to bamboo is the price! It is relatively low and a great investment of a lifetime.

Flooring: Why Carpet Is a Beneficial Part of Your Home

There might not be a more comforting yet overlooked part of the home than your carpet. Until you lay down on a bare, carpetless floor, or until you spill something on or track mud all over your carpet, you can sometimes forget it's there. It serves as a way to cushion your feet as you make your way around your home, keeps your kids from hurting themselves too badly when they fall, and has many other benefits that make it a great choice for flooring in your home.

As a flooring option, carpet is one of the most popular in the United States. One reason is because it's so easy to install. Regardless of the flooring type you have in your home currently, you can install carpet over top of that without a lot of extra work. When compared to the installation of hardwood flooring or tile, carpet can usually be installed much more quickly and with much less difficulty. In terms of price, carpet can be extremely cost-effective when compared to other types of flooring.

Carpet can also help you soften the sound in a room. If you've ever been in a room with hardwood floors, you've probably noticed how the sound seems to be louder, and there's a hint of an echo, if not a full-blown one. With carpet installed, you can reduce the noise level and cut down on the echoing that occurs.

In terms of interior design and decorating, you can find carpet in a number of different styles, grades, and colors. You can opt for a soft, plush carpet that will make you want to walk around in your bare feet all day, or you can choose a solid, durable, stain-resistant carpet that will stand up to heavy use. And with a large number of colors available, you have a very good chance of finding one you like so that you can create the interior you've always wanted.

Of course, if you're a parent, carpet may be important to you for its safety qualities. Carpet is more comfortable for smaller children who get around on their hands and knees, and when those children begin walking, your carpet will be there to make their occasional falls a bit more soft. The cushioning qualities of your carpet can also help you when fragile items are knocked over or dropped. A glass that is knocked off of a coffee table, for example, has a better chance of surviving if it falls on a carpeted floor as opposed to a hardwood or tile floor.

These are just a few examples of why it's beneficial to have carpet installed in your home. From its ease of installation to the comfort it provides, carpet is a great choice for flooring. It's no wonder that it's one of the most popular options in the country.

How to Select the Right Carpet Color for Your Home

Buying a new carpet for one or more rooms in your home is a task well worth spending some time on. After all you will probably be living with this carpet for many months and possibly years to come, so it makes sense to ensure you have made the right decision.
One of the most important things to think about is the color of the carpet. There are so many different ones to choose from that it can seem impossible to start narrowing down your choices. If you are in the position of choosing a new carpet at the moment, you should read through the following tips and advice to help you arrive at the best choice for your home.
Are you changing anything else in the room you are re-carpeting?
This is important to think about. Some people simply want a new carpet to go with all the furniture and décor they currently have. Others want to get something completely new because they are taking out all the furniture and starting from scratch. - redecorating the whole room as they do so.
The last thing you want to do is to lay a new carpet and then decide a couple months down the line that you hate the décor and want to change everything around.
Do you want a new carpet throughout your entire home?
This can apply to one floor of your home if you live in a multi-level property, or the entire house. Some people like to lay the same carpet throughout, and it can certainly make the issue of continuity much easier to handle if you do.
If you are going to do this you must make sure the color you choose will suit all the rooms you are going to have it laid in. A rich cherry red could look sensational in your bedroom if that's what you want, but do you really want that color in a whole host of other rooms too?
Consider this point before doing anything else. You can always choose a different color for each room if you want to do one room at a time. If you do this, just be sure you choose complementary colors to move smoothly from one room to the next.
What is the best color to choose?
Very often a neutral color of some kind is the best option to take when choosing a new carpet. You may be tempted to go for the latest colors and the boldest patterns, but these are liable to date very quickly, leaving you with something you really don't like.
So consider a plain and neutral color that will complement pretty much any room and also be able to take a change of décor later on if need be. In addition to this, neutral colors sell homes much more easily, so if you ever decide to sell up and move on, your neutral colored carpet will help you seal the deal.

Reduce Your Heating Bills With Cork Flooring

Cork flooring comes from the bark of the cork oak tree and is one of the most sustainable of all wooden flooring options. This type of flooring is sustainable and watertight so the perfect option for any room including kitchens and bathrooms. You can also choose tile options that form a very attractive look especially in living rooms and kitchens. Because of its natural colour, cork flooring can be matched with any type of décor including contemporary and traditional styling.

Cork flooring is often chosen by those looking for a more durable flooring type. Because it isn't affected by impact or friction, your flooring will last for years and stay looking its very best. The production process of this flooring involves gas compression and this reduces the volume of the wood significantly. When released from this pressure, the cork recovers very quickly and this helps it to last for years.

Not only is this flooring strong and attractive, but it is also great for insulation. If you are looking to reduce your energy costs, this flooring is the ideal option. It's also great for reducing noise and vibration so if you have kids, you'll be very pleased.

Because of the composition of cork, it is very compressible. Even though it is composed of 50% air it is extremely robust. Cork also reduces body heat lost through the feet and also the loss of heat from your rooms so you can always be assured of a constant comfortable temperature. If you are considering wooden flooring, but worried about cold floors, cork flooring is the answer.

Yet another major benefit of this type of flooring is that it inhibits the spread of fire. If you are unlucky enough to experience a fire, your cork flooring will not release any toxic gases and will prevent flames from burning across the floor. Bugs, termites and mould are also repelled thanks to the natural substances contained in the wood.

You would expect such a versatile, strong and beneficial wood to be expensive, but in fact, cork flooring costs significantly less than other types of wooden flooring. If you are looking to install wood flooring around your home without breaking the bank, cork could be just the thing. There are many companies offering this type of flooring as an alternative to more traditional laminates and real wood floors. Why not arrange a quote today to see how much you could save?

Professional Carpet Cleaning - Clean Carpets and Improved Air Quality

Unclean and dirty carpets can drastically affect the quality of indoor air and make it ten times worse than that of outdoor air. Carpets which are not cleaned regularly can harbor germs and become breeding grounds for a variety of microorganisms, all of which can affect the health of your family. Professional carpet cleaning services are thus necessary to ensure that your carpets are thoroughly cleansed which will not only improve the indoor air quality but also prolong the aesthetic appearance and life of your carpets.
Germs and bacteria embedded within the carpet fibers can cause different types of allergies; children and older people are more prone to developing problems due to these. Regular vacuuming only removes the dust from the outer layer of the carpet and not the dust and germs trapped inside. Only professional carpet cleaning methods can clean the entire carpet as they use techniques and chemicals to remove the trapped particles cleansing the carpet thoroughly.
Professional methods can also help to restore the original quality of the carpet fabric preserving its looks, softness as well as increase the lifetime of the rugs and carpet. There are several different methods that are employed by professional carpet cleaners and this depends on the type of carpet or rug that you have. It is best to seek a professional consultation as they will be able to assess the type of fiber and thus suggest the best cleaning technique for the same. Though there are many do-it-yourself cleaning kits available in the market for cleaning carpets, none of this function like the professional techniques which make use of specialized reagents and equipment for the cleaning process.
When you move into a new home or planning to purchase a new residence, it is always best to call in a professional carpet cleaning service to assess the real state of the carpets and rugs. Sometimes, the previous owner would have done a good job of cleaning the exteriors which will make the carpet appear sparkling but there could be a lot of dirt and dust trapped inside. In this case, you will have to spend extra bucks to clean the entire carpet once again. Calling in a professional carpet cleaning service will enable you to assess the real state of the carpets and negotiate your price accordingly.
Regular cleaning and maintenance of your carpets can ensure not only good looks but improve the air quality within your home.
